Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby

The take home message:

Chiropractic treatment is a relatively safe treatment option for expecting mothers. Chiropractic treatment focuses on using the body’s own natural healing ability, which is great for any person that has to avoid medications for whatever reason. Before beginning any treatment, a thorough examination needs to be performed first to make sure that treatment is a safe option.

Can a pregnant woman get adjusted? Why would a pregnant mom need chiropractic care? Can a child-bearing woman benefit from chiropractic treatment?

The answer to all three questions is “yes.” Moms can get adjusted. And not only pregnant moms, but breastfeeding moms, stressed-out moms and all other types of moms can be adjusted.

Regarding pregnancy—a female’s body goes through fascinating and amazing chemical and mechanical changes (hormones and carrying a new human), which sometimes leads to some aches and pains... Which can be very frustrating, stressful, and downright painful.

Why? And how do I know? Many patients of mine that have been pregnant and gotten a common cold or had some pain in their back/hip/shoulder/leg/wrist were given a list of generally safe, low risk medications during pregnancy by their OBGYN office to help with the pain– and that list of medications is small, often instilling people with a lack of hope, or a feeling like, “There’s nothing I can do to stop this pain and discomfort!” I’ve also witnessed three pregnancies first hand, and I would have done anything to help my wife try and get comfortable so she could relax and have an easier time.

Did you know that a chiropractor can help to reduce the pain and discomfort without medicine and improve the overall function of your nervous system?

Over the years I have helped many frustrated, hurting, pregnant patients reduce their pain and subsequently regain enjoyment of the pregnancy because they were not hurting all the time.

And chiropractic is a relatively safe treatment option– But you don’t have to take my word for it -- If you want to know more, you can find plenty of research on PubMed:

NOTE***Before beginning any treatment, a thorough examination needs to be performed first to make sure chiropractic is a safe treatment option for the mom.

NOTE2** Even women that are not pregnant or have never been pregnant can be adjusted.

NOTE3** The pregnant woman in the photo was adjusted throughout all 3 of her pregnancies and after; The shirt is NOT a real x-ray—we will only x-ray pregnant patients if the films are medically necessary and the

benefits outweigh the risks.
